What are white fillings?

White fillings offer a more natural looking alternative to traditional metal amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings are made of a silver-appearing material that can be noticeable and distracting when we smile, leaving patients feeling self-conscious. White fillings are tooth-coloured and completely unobtrusive, allowing them to subtly fit in with the rest of the mouth while also repairing the decayed tooth.

What are white fillings made of?

These tooth-coloured fillings are made of composite resin. This is a highly durable material that is bonded to the tooth for a natural fit and full function.

Are white fillings as functional as amalgam fillings?

White fillings can perform and fulfil the same function as an amalgam filling. Used to fill in a cavity, they can repair a tooth that has been damaged due to decay or injury and help protect it from further damage. White fillings are often used to repair teeth at the front of the mouth, and we may well still recommend amalgam fillings for those teeth at the back of the mouth.
