Implant Retained Dentures

Implant retained dentures offer patients a more secure, stable alternative to traditional dentures and we’re proud to be able to offer them to our patients at Brixton Smiles.

What are implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures are fixed to the jaw using implants, usually made of titanium, on top of which we then affix a set of dentures.

Why choose implant retained dentures?

While traditional dentures can help provide many patients with a functional set of prosthetic teeth, some patients find them uncomfortable and awkward. Implant retained dentures provide a much more permanent solution to the problem of missing teeth, and eliminate the need for sometimes hard to use adhesives.

They also have the added benefit of looking and feeling much more realistic. This can help boost the patient’s confidence, not only when eating and talking, which can be difficult with traditional removable dentures, but when smiling too.

What does the treatment involve?

As with other implant treatments, we first have to make sure you are a suitable candidate for implant retained dentures. This is usually established by use of an X-ray, which we use to determine if your jaw is healthy enough to fuse with the implants.Four

The treatment time for implant retained dentures is usually a few months. This is to allow time for the implants to fuse with the jawbone before fitting you with your permanent dentures. During this time, we can offer you temporary dentures, or if you already have a set, you can continue to wear your current dentures.
